The foundation for a successful growing season is a well thought out garden plan. To develop this plan, we will start by sending you a Homefront Farmers Crop Planner, which lets you choose which crops you want, and in what quantities. All this information is fed into a plan, which allocates space, by crop, configures plants for maximum overall productivity (accounting for sunlight needs, growing height, companion planting strategies, etc.), and incorporates succession planting to keep the garden producing for as many months as possible.
Also included in the Spring Startup program is application of compost and/or worm castings to improve nutritional levels and biological activity.
Care/maintenance will begin with implementation of the annual garden plan, including bed preparation and planting. Our costs assume visits of approximately XX minutes. Early and late in the year our visits may be less frequent, but during the summer months we plan to be working in the garden weekly. Typical activities include weeding, thinning, checking for pest and disease problems and dealing with them as appropriate, succession planting, harvesting, etc. All our methods are organic and follow NOFA (Northeast Organic Farming Association) standards.
