Maple Sugaring

Maple sugaring – the process of tapping maple trees, collecting and boiling the sap into a nutritious and pure maple syrup – is a quintessential New England experience loved by young and old.  While Vermont is most often associated with maple syrup production, Connecticut and New York maples yield a syrup that is equally delicious. Homefront Farmers offers clients the opportunity to tap maples on their property for their very own, homegrown maple syrup. Check out our maple blog. to learn more about the process of converting sap from maple trees to the “liquid gold” enjoyed on pancakes, ice cream and so much more!

What does the Homefront Farmers maple sugaring service entail?

We start with a site visit to survey your property and determine if you have suitable maple trees for tapping. Trees with a trunk diameter of at least 10” can be tapped, and the larger the tree, the more taps it can support. Sugar maples offer sap with the highest sugar content but red, silver, and Norway maples can also be tapped.
As the sugaring season approaches, we will return to your property to tap the identified trees and install sap collection buckets. Sap starts and continues flowing when daytime temperatures are above, and nighttime temperatures below, freezing or 32 degrees. In our region, this period of time usually begins in early February and extends into early March.
As soon as sap starts flowing, we will collect and bring it back to our Homefront Sugar Shack where we boil to perfection. We then finish, filter, bottle and apply your own family’s label for a personalized touch. Finally, we deliver your case of homegrown maple syrup right to your door.
